In addition to his legal work for the Hawaii Group, Kalani leads HiHR’s Human Resources team, drawing on his years of experience training and advising employers on personnel issues and structuring and implementing lawful employment policies to ensure effective and compliant workforce management. Kalani regularly speaks at labor and employment law and HR-related seminars, providing in-depth training on discrimination and harassment, employee privacy, health care reform and compliance, drug policies, wage and hour compliance, internal investigations, and disability and leave laws.
Having advised a number of healthcare clients and providers on insurance, contract, and other compliance issues, Mr. Morse is well-positioned to help HiHealthcare with its operational and compliance obligations. In addition, Mr. Morse has focused on developing an expertise in advising and helping employers comply with the complex statutory and regulatory requirements of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), speaking regularly on the issue in professional development and educational seminars.
Kalani is admitted to practice law in all state and federal courts in Hawai‘i and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He received his BA from BYU and then worked as a project manager for IBM in California. He then earned his JD/MPA from BYU where he was repeatedly distinguished as a BYU Academic Merit Scholar and a Native Hawaiian Leadership Project Scholar. During law school, Kalani served as a founder and Editor-in-Chief of the BYU International Law & Management Review and Director for the Moot Court Board of Advocates. Born and raised in Hawaii, Kalani enjoys spending time with his children and in the ocean, preferably at the same time.
